Blood drive: The Ashe County Community blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory at 1147 Old Highway 16 in Jefferson. Donors are eligible to win a $1,000 gift card. For more information, call Eula Blevins at (336) 982-2164.
Bee keepers meeting: Beginning at 7 p.m., the meeting will be held at the Agricultural Service Center conference room. For more information, call (336) 846-5850.

Fish fry: From 4 to 8 p.m., a fish fry will be held to benefit Ashe Outreach Ministries and Mobile Meals. The fish fry will be held at the Riverview Community Center with takeout available. The cost is $10. Live bluegrass music will be featured. For more information, call (336) 385-1314.

Ashe Dash: With registration beginning at 7:30 a.m., the Ashe Dash will get underway with a fun run at 8:15 a.m. This is set to be a free family, fun and community run. A 5k race will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Back Street in West Jefferson. Awards will follow the race. Also to be featured will be a health fair, the Ashe County Farmer's Market, Kid's Corner and the canoe race. To register for the Ashe Dash, visit http://www.surveymonkey.com. Annual Canoe Race & Ashe Dash: Beginning at 9 a.m., the Annual 4-H New River Canoe Race will begin at Zaloo's Canoes, as part of the Ashe Dash, Family Fun Fitness Day. The race will end at New River State Park. The last boat will leave Zaloo's at 1:30 p.m. Awards, a race t-shirt and door prizes will be presented. All proceeds go to benefit the 4-H scholarship fund. Walk to End Alzheimer's: Beginning at 9 a.m., Ashe Assisted Living and Memory Care at 182 Chattyrob Lane in West Jefferson will host a Walk to End Alzheimer's. For more information, contact April or Bevin at (336) 846-6200.
Dog adoptions: Second Chance Dogs of Ashe will hold a dog and puppy adoption from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Walmart. A tent will be set up for the event. For more information, visit http://www.secondchancedogsofashe.org.
Guard tribute: SSG Mike Clarke of the 1450th Transportation Company in West Jefferson will be doing a guard tribute display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Lowe's Hardware in West Jefferson. Trucks will be on display. The event is in honor of Armed Forces Day.
Mount Jefferson Geology: At 1 p.m., a hike will be led to view several types of geological formations on Mount Jefferson. Meet at the picnic shelter at Mount Jefferson State Natural Area. Participants will also dig into the connections that exist between the soil and plants. Hikers are encouraged to wear appropriate boots or shoes. For more information, call (336) 246-9653.
BBQ and Bluegrass fundraiser: The Peak Creek Ruritan Club will sponsor a BBQ and Bluegrass fundraiser featuring the Borderline Bluegrass and Old Timey Country Music Band from Alleghany County. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Peak Creek Ruritan Community Center on Highway 88 East in Laurel Springs. There will also be cake, auctions, cake walks and door prizes. Legend of Tom Dooley Hike: At 1 p.m., a Western North Carolina native will relive the last days of the N.C. legend, Tom Dooley. Meet at the picnic shelter at Mount Jefferson State Natural Area. For more information, call (336) 246-9653.
Guided canoe trip: At 1 p.m., at the Wagoner Access of New River State Park, a guided canoe trip will be led by a park ranger. The trip will be a two hour float down the New River while learning basic canoeing paddle strokes and helping carry and load canoes. Rangers will interpret many sights along the route. The trip is limited to eight visitors. For a reservation, call (336) 982-2587.
Vista viewing: At 2:30 p.m., participants will get to enjoy the view of three states while learning the oral tradition associated with Mount Jefferson and its surrounding mountains. The program is weather dependent. For more information, call (336) 246-9653.

Start Your Own Business workshop: A no cost fall Start Your Own Business workshop series is being held at the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department from 6 to 8 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Friends of the Library meeting: Beginning at 11 a.m., the annual meeting of the Friends of the Ashe County Public Library, in the friends' room at the Ashe County Library. Lunch will be provided.
End of school celebration: Between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., Good Ole Days in West Jefferson will give a portion of their sales to the NEST Alliance, a non-profit Christ-centered alliance that serves children and their families through a van ministry, weekly Bible messages, music, books, food, coats, school supplies and more.
