Ashe County Little Theatre’s summer musical production of Annie comes to the stage of the Ashe Civic Center in June.

Auditions for the show will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, at the civic center. The beloved musical was first done in Ashe County in 1985 and it was reprised in 1999. Annie features music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin and includes the favorite tunes of “Tomorrow,” “Maybe,” and “NYC.” Annie is currently enjoying a successful revival on Broadway.

Parts are available for children and adults and one dog. The auditions for Sandy, the dog, will be held at a later date.

Lead roles include Annie, Oliver Warbucks, Grace Farrell, Miss Hannigan, Rooster, Lily St. Regis, up to 10 orphans and several other speaking roles. There are opportunities for chorus members in the NYC street scene, the staff of Warbuck’s mansion and in Hooverville.

Those auditioning for a leading role are asked to prepare a song from the show and to do a reading from the script. Others auditioning for chorus roles may sing a short song selection of their choice. An accompanist will be provided.

Annie will be performed June 27 through July 1 at the civic center. The rehearsal schedule will begin in mid-April; rehearsals are typically held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The schedule varies depending on the scenes being worked on and the cast.

The director for Annie is Grady Lonon, musical director is Michael Bell and the producer is Jane Lonon. There are opportunities to get involved with Ashe County Little Theatre behind the scenes, too. Help is needed with set construction, costume sewing, gathering props, taking tickets, serving as ushers and helping backstage during the production.

Ashe County Little Theatre is a volunteer, non-profit organization formed in the 1970s. ACLT produces four shows each year at the civic center and co-sponsors the Missoula Children’s Theatre residency in partnership with the Arts Council and Civic Center.
