Ashe Home and Garden Show coming in May

Plans are in the works for the inaugural Ashe Home and Garden Show, set to be held May 10, 2014.

The idea for the one-day show was formed through a partnership between the Ashe County Homebuilders Association and the Ashe Mountain Times.

“Our main purpose is to provide a quality show by the homebuilders,” said Tammie Pruitt-Coffey, executive officer of the ACHBA. “We felt like as a homebuilder association, we have access to the most quality vendors.”

The show will be geared toward home and garden or landscaping and will feature demonstrations, builders, remodelers, lawn and garden experts, cabinets, furniture and kitchen and bath items.

Local vendors and many from across the state will be onsite at the Shatley Farms Distribution Center to display their products and services. Near West Jefferson, the center is located at 3509 U.S. Highway 221 North, across from Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. It is the former B&B Swimwear facility.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in addition to the vendors, it will offer food and door prizes.

“We will have free parking, free admission and a very large venue for the show. There will be lots to see,” Pruitt-Coffey said.

The venue is large enough to support large vendor displays, a high participant turn out, easy handicap access and plenty of free parking.

The May 10 date was chosen because Mother’s Day is that weekend.

“We believe it will be a great opportunity to find gifts for mom,” she said. “And all the money we raise will go back into the community.”

The ACHBA is a nonprofit organization and is a self-described group of building professionals and associated industries, seeking to educate and promote honest and ethical building practices in Ashe County, while making a positive contribution to the community’s quality of life.
