Staff Reports
Former class members of Ashe County's three former high schools can revisit their prep days at the Ashe County Historical Museum.
Three display cases are set up featuring Ashe Central, Beaver Creek and Northwest Ashe high schools. The schools were consolidated to form Ashe County High.
Numerous items including yearbooks, newspapers, sports items, letter jackets and diplomas have been donated or loaned to the museum for these displays.
Anyone with items who wish to contribute to these should see Linda Payne at the museum.
A time capsule, to be housed at the museum, is being planned. Individuals, school classes, civic organizations, fraternal organizations and any others who wish to provide items for the capsule are encouraged to participate.
A project is under way for a raffle of a crazy quilt, made up of different types of fabric and individual donors' stories about Ashe County. The raffle will include a scrapbook which tells the stories behind each piece of fabric in the quilt.
New displays are constantly being added to the museum. The downstairs is finished and plans are under way to begin work on the upstairs courtroom.
