Construction has been completed and the Goodwill Store will hold its grand opening next week.

Kicking off the event will be a ribbon cutting by the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce at 7:45 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, and the store will open at 8 a.m.

Art Gibel, president and CEO, and John Cunningham, vice president of retail operations, will be at the opening and participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to Jaymie A. Eichorn, vice president of marketing and communications for Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina.

She said other Goodwill executives, retail district managers from across the territory and West Jefferson store staff will be in attendance.

Employees have been hired and are working to get all the merchandise set up and ready for customers.

Customers will be able to browse items ranging from clothing and shoes to electronics, books and more.

Store hours will be 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Donations to Goodwill will now be accepted at the store instead of the trailer that had been parked just down the street.

“We are so excited to open our store in West Jefferson,” Eichorn said. “I visited the store today (Tuesday) and it is beautiful. Our staff has worked hard to stock the store with great finds including home décor, shoes, electronics, clothing and books and the store also has a variety of new items for sale.

“We appreciate the support of people in the West Jefferson community,” she continued. “Each time they donate items to Goodwill and shop in our stores, they are supporting our mission to help people find jobs and get back on their feet.”

The West Jefferson location has been built according to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certification. The “green” building benefits the area, workers and customers by reducing the store’s pull on local resources through reduced energy and water consumption.

The store is located at 1291 Mount Jefferson Road in West Jefferson.

“We look forward to seeing everyone on the 28th,” Eichorn said.
