Staff Reports
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued a Flood Watch for Ashe, Alleghany and Watauga counties in northwest North Carolina, the City of Galax and Grayson County in southwest Virginia, ending at 11 a.m. this morning.
NWS said many small streams are at the top of their banks early this morning and additional rainfall could cause some streams to flood through late this morning. A few rivers could also rise to near bank-full or into minor flood levels into tonight.
Recommended actions
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.
