Four arrested in connection with Operation Child Safe

Four Ashe County men were charged on Aug. 20, in connection with Operation Child Safe, according to the Ashe County Sheriff's Office

The ACSO, in coordination with the US Marshal's Service, Alleghany County Sheriff's Office and Division of Adult corrections conducted a two day operation beginning on Aug. 20 named Operation Child Safe to track down sex offenders and verify their information under the Adam Walsh Act, according to the ACSO.

A total of 24 sex offenders were checked on to make sure they were in compliance with all federal, state and local laws concerning the sex offender registry. During the operation the following arrests were made:

On Aug. 20, Larry Edward Elliott, 67, of Lansing, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon by the ACSO and later released .

On Aug. 20, Danny Franklin Matkins, 26, of Fleetwood, was charged for probation violation by the ACSO and later released.

On Aug. 20, James Lee Osborne, 74, of Creston, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon by the ACSO and later released.

On Aug. 20, Charles Andrew Taylor, 35, of Jefferson was charged for parole violation by the ACSO and later released.

During the operation, 22 guns were seized in Ashe County, along with an additional 21 weapons from Alleghany county, multiple boxes of ammunition, pornography materials, and drugs and paraphernalia.

There are also four open investigations as a result of the checks with possible charges pending later, according to the ACSO.
