With no filings Tuesday at the Ashe County Board of Elections, the field of candidates for county commissioners remains at seven.
The filing period closes at noon Wednesday, Feb. 29.
Three seats are up for re-election in November, and the field of seven headed for the May 8 primary includes two Democrats and five Republicans.
Among them are the three incumbents — Republicans Larry Rhodes, Gerald Price and Gary Roark.
Also filed are Republicans Mickey Pruitt and Ed McClearen and Democrats Richard Blackburn and Marty Gambill.
Two of the seats, those collecting the most votes, are awarded four-year terms and the third-highest in votes receives a two-year term.
Voter registration deadline is Friday, April 13, or 25 days prior to the primary.
One stop absentee voting begins on Thursday, April 19, and ends on Saturday, May 5.
