Larry Rhodes, a longtime Ashe County commissioner, has filed to run for another term.
Rhodes made his filing official on Monday, said deputy board of elections director Devon Houck. Rhodes, 69, joins fellow Republican incumbents Gary Roark and Gerald Price in bids to retain seats on the commission.
Challenging the trio through six days of the filing period are Democrats Richard Blackburn and Marty Gambill, and Republicans Mickey Pruitt and Ed McClearen.
The filing period closes at noon Wednesday, Feb. 29.
Two of the seats, those collecting the most votes, are awarded four-year terms and the third-highest in votes receives a two-year term.
Voter registration deadline is Friday, April 13, or 25 days prior to the May 8 primary.
One stop absentee voting begins on Thursday, April 19, and ends on Saturday, May 5.
