Democrat Marty Gambill is the latest entry to the race for three Ashe County commissioner seats.

The Ashe County Board of Elections confirmed Gambill's filing.

Gambill, 41, joins a field that includes Democrat Richard Blackburn and Republicans Gary Roark, Gerald Price, Mickey Pruitt and Ed McClearen.

Roark and Price are incumbents. Larry Rhodes, who has yet to file, is also an incumbent whose seat is up for re-election.

The filing period closes at noon Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Two of the seats, those collecting the most votes, are awarded four-year terms and the third-highest in votes receives a two-year term.

Voter registration deadline is Friday, April 13, or 25 days prior to the May 8 primary.

One stop absentee voting begins on Thursday, April 19, and ends on Saturday, May 5.
