A mother and her small child escaped serious bodily injury Saturday morning when
her Volkswagen Jetta came to rest on its side following a single car accident on N Main Street in Jefferson.
The grandmother of the child said her daughter, the driver, dropped off the highway, causing her to overcorrect resulting in the crash.
The accident occurred just before noon.
Both airbags were deployed, but the mother and child walked away relatively unscathed.
Members of the Ashe County Rescue Squad and Jefferson Police Department were on the scene as the investigation continued.
