UPDATE: Warrensville man charged with first degree child rape

On May 6, the Ashe County Sheriff's Office released details of recent arrests including the May 1, arrest of John Tyler Harms, 20, of Warrensville, who was charged with first degree child rape, first degree sexual offense, and felony disseminating obscenity to a minor under the age of 13 by the ACSO.

According to a press release issued by the ACSO, Detective Captain Carolyn Gentry had recently been called to Ashe Memorial Hospital to investigate an alleged rape of an 11-year-old child.

"(The) investigation revealed that the child had met John Tyler Harms at the skating rink in West Jefferson," according to the release. "Subsequent to that meeting, Harms befriended the child during meetings at the skating rink over the last month or so."

On the night of April 30, according to the release, Harms allegedly came to the residence while the mother of the child was working.

"Upon the return of the mother, the child was taken to the emergency room," according to the release.

Harms was subsequently arrested and remains in ACSO custody on $250,000 secured bond.

Other recent arrests include the April 29 arrest of Linda Seward Benson, 61, of Crumpler, who was charged with attempted trafficking by the ACSO, and released on May 2.

On April 30, Damion Okoyia Blevins, 20, of Todd, was charged with injury to real property and common law robbery by the ACSO. Blevins remains in ACSO custody on combined $41,000 secured bond.

On April 30, Derek Matthew Frederick, 19, of Creston, was charged with breaking and or entering and injury to real property by the ACSO. Frederick remains in ACSO custody on combined $26,000 secured bond.

On May 1, Vicki Wellborn Shaki, 60, of Fleetwood, was charged with communicating threats by the ACSO and released the same day.

On May 3, Bryan Alan Greer, 18, of West Jefferson, was charged with second degree trespassing and no operators license by the ACSO. Greer was later released on May 6.

On May 4, Kevin Joseph Porter, 26, of Jefferson, was charged with driving while license revoked by the ACSO and released on May 5.

On May 5, Randy Brian Shelton, 36, of Jefferson, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile by the ACSO and released the same day.

On May 5, Roy Roger Roark, 68, of West Jefferson, was charged with assault on a female by the ACSO. Roark remains in ACSO custody.
