Five Ashe wrestlers in regional semis

Five Ashe County High wrestlers were within one win of advancing to the state championships in Greensboro following Friday's action in the Class 2-A Midwest Regional at Piedmont High.
Josh Wineberg (285 pounds), William Miller (182), Lucas Miller (170), Dakota Elliott (138) and Michael Elliott (132) each reached the semifinals unbeaten. The top four in the regional in each weight class advance to the state championships, and each Ashe wrestler would advance by reaching the final, or by winning a consolation round if defeated in the semifinals.
Wineberg and William Miller each needed one pin to reach the semifinals. Michael Elliott recorded two pins to reach the semis, Lucas Miller earned a pin and a decision, and Dakota Elliott won twice by decision.
Championship round semifinals and consolations continued Saturday.
The state championships are Thursday through Saturday in the Greensboro Coliseum.
