Lady Huskies tumble to West Wilkes

Ashe County High, fresh off snapping a nine-game skid, returned to Mountain Valley Conference action Friday and was dealt an 18-1 defeat from visiting rival West Wilkes.


The Lady Huskies (2-10, 0-8 MVC) completed the first half of MVC round-robin home-and-home series.


Ashe's Allison Powers and Anna Wooten had the only hits for the hosts. West Wilkes' got two hits each from Stevie Wingler, Rachel Eller and Courtney Huffman.


In the junior varsity game, Ashe fell 8-5. The Lady Huskies had trailed 7-0 but erupted for five runs in the sixth inning.


Mackensie Wallace pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs and seven hits. She struck out five.


The loss was the first for Ashe County in MVC play, dropping their record to 3-1. The Lady Huskies are 3-3 overall.


Monday's home date with Grayson County (Va.) was postponed due to inclement weather.
