Alice Smith Miller

Mrs. Alice Wilma Jean Black Smith Miller, 77, of Jefferson, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Ashe Assisted Living in West Jefferson.

Mrs. Miller was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Ashe County to Noah Marlin and Ethel Severt Black. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her parents and eight sisters. She was a member of West Jefferson Church of Christ. Mrs. Miller loved working as a foster grandparent at Blue Ridge and Westwood Elementary Schools. She enjoyed scrap booking and spending time with her family. She was an avid bird lover.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Jim Goodman, Al Dunkleman, Randy Smith, Joseph Dunkleman and Minister Tim Cannup. Burial followed in Mash Severt Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons, Ricky Smith and wife, Debbie, of Hickory and Randy Smith and wife, Susan, of Seneca, S.C.; two daughters, Kim Goodman and husband, Jim, of West Jefferson and Karen Dunkleman and husband, Al, of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Mamie Eller of Laurel Springs and Virginia Sears of Jefferson; nine grandchildren, Daniel, Benjamin "B. J." and wife, Katie, Jessica, Jarrett, Matthew and wife, Lindsay, Ellen, Joseph, Katie and Ethan; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
