Eugene Goss

Eugene Goss, better known as "Gene," 75, of Jefferson died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Goss was born on June 27, 1938, to the late Leonard and Sibbi Barker Goss. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George Wayne Goss, Garrold Goss, the Rev. James "Jim" Goss, and one half brother, Robert Goss.

Gene was a past member of the Ashe Masonic Lodge and the Ashe Shrine Club. He was a member of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church. Gene served in the US Army and served as the sheriff for Ashe County from 1982-1990.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Steve Goss. Burial followed in the Howell Hill Cemetery with military rites. The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Goss is survived by three sons, Mark Goss of Lexington, Greg Goss of New York, and Scott Goss and wife, Jennifer, of Lansing; two brothers, Dean Goss and wife, Ann, of Jefferson, and the Rev. Steve Goss and wife, Phyllis, of Boone; one sister, Carol Driver and husband, Donald, of Washington; one sister-in-law, Anna Lee Goss of Jefferson; one grandson, Jonathan Goss and wife, Brittany; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Easton Goss; two step great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Grayson Joyal. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Flowers were appreciated or memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, c/o Oasis Shrine Temple, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262.
