John Neal Severt

Mr. John Neal Severt, 65, of West Jefferson, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Severt was born Jan. 11, 1948, in Ashe County to Albert Lawrence and Lessie McNeil Severt. Mr. Severt was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Severt worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an all-around outdoorsman. John always enjoyed making people laugh. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Eddie Lyle and Elder James McNeill. Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park. The family received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
Mr. Severt is survived by his goddaughter, Jennifer Daughtry of Willow Spring, godson, Jeffery Hayes of Boone; one sister, Wilma Brinegar of Fleetwood; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Flowers were appreciated, or memorials may be made to any veterans' organization.
