Mr. Joseph Edward Powers, 73, of Lansing, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Margate Health & Rehab Center.

Mr. Powers was born on Dec. 2, 1939, in Ashe County, to the late Raymond Basil and Ruth Howell Powers. Mr. Powers was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Sturgill and Virginia Venable.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved going to church and was ordained as a minister in 1965.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Brother Ralph Smith, the Rev. Rex Hall and the Rev. Ronda Rash. Burial will follow in Powers Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, prior to the service.

Mr. Powers is survived by his wife, Pauline Powers; two sons, Reggie Dale Powers of Lansing and Bennie Lee Powers of Salisbury; three brothers, Elmer Powers, Bill Powers and Allen Powers all of Lansing; five sisters, Mary Blevins of Lansing, Mable Turner of Warrensville, Carol Ellis of Crumpler, JoAnn Kerr of Fleetwood, and Annie Ham of Kannapolis; also surviving are three grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
