Paul Alexander Hopkins

Mr. Paul Alexander Hopkins, 95, of West Jefferson, the Friendly Grove Community, passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2013, at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Edwards officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military rights.

The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Hopkins was born in Ashe County on Friday, May 4, 1917, to the late W.P. Hopkins and Rosa Winebarger Hopkins. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He managed the Western Auto for many years and, later in life, he retired from Southern Devices.

He was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church where he served as, Deacon, Chairman of Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He loved to enjoy life and he was also an avid baseball fan.

Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife of 66 years of marriage, Doris (Dot) Bare Hopkins; a son, Barry Hopkins of Efland; a sister, Gwyn Lewis of West Jefferson; two granddaughters, Kelly Hopkins of Ramseur and Stephanie Hopkins and her husband, Troy Coghill, of Garner; a great-grandson, William Coghill of Garner; several nieces and nephews also survive.
