Truett Lahugh Perkins

Mr. Truett Lahugh Perkins, better known as "Sonny," 69, of West Jefferson, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, morning at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial followed in the Beaver Creek Christian Church Cemetery with military rites.

The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, prior to the funeral service at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Truett Lahugh Perkins was born in Sullivan County, Tenn. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 1944, to the late Albert H. and Mable Rose Johnson Perkins. He was a produce manager for Ingles Grocery Store in Spruce Pine and Walmart in West Jefferson. Truett served our country during the Vietnam war in the U.S. Navy. He was a knowledgeable and kind man that will be missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Perkins is survived by one son, Anthony Scott Perkins of Mishawaka, Ind.; one daughter, Rebecca Michelle Carpenter of Canastota, N.Y.; two brothers, Gary Wayne Perkins of Marion, Edward H. Perkins and wife, Carol, of Orlando, Fla.; a former sister-in-law, Rita Auld Perkins of Bakersville; two grandchildren, Brandon Carpenter of Canastota, Cody Carpenter of Canastota; a niece, Teresa Perkins of Marion; two nephews, Edward Perkins Jr. of Concord, and Steven Perkins of Concord.

Flowers were accepted.
